Core department services

Please feel free to contact us at the Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center to our telephone number 217-546-7100.

We are in our offices during the days and we are always available after hours via our answering service. We strive to answer your telephone call 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. When our answering service tells us that someone has called, a member of our team will get back to you that very same day – regardless if it is a weekend day or a holiday.

This availability and this attention is what we at Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center call our Core Department. This is our Core. We are here for you, regardless of time, hour or day of the week. At Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center – we care for you.

Areas where we can help you

Many times we are not sure what is our concern. We are not sure if we need help with a bleeding issue or a clotting issue. We are uncertain and, as such, sometimes we do not ask for help because of that uncertainty.

Please allow us to help. We can help ease this uncertainty. Please contact us at our telephone number 217-546-7100 or send us an email and we will get back to you – very often even on a weekend or holiday day!

Some of the chapters below illustrate the many departments where we can help you with your blood related issues.

Bleeding Disorders

When someone cuts themselves and does not stop bleeding for hours and possibly days – this is a very scary thing.

Bleeding disorders are one of our strengths. The most often encountered bleeding disorders are Hemophilia A or Hemophilia B or Von Willebrand Disease – among others.

Sometimes, parts of the blood – called the platelets – do not function as they should and this permits the patient to bleed.

At Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center, we are familiar with all of these issues and can help with all of them.

Clotting Disorders

An important function of the blood is that it is supposed to clot when we cut ourselves so that we do not bleed excessively. But sometimes blood clots when it is not supposed to clot!

These are times that we call “Excessive Clotting” times. Or, more precisely in medical speech, “Hyper Coagulability.”

The way that this manifests itself is, sometimes, when a person develops a blood clot in their leg after a long distance car ride. Or if the person is immobilized after something like a car accident and develops a blood clot in a leg. These are times when we at the Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center can especially help.

Anemia

Sometimes our primary care provider tells us that we are “Anemic” and we wonder what is meant by this.

In a nutshell, being “Anemic” means to have less blood in your body than what is considered normal. There are many reasons why a person may be Anemic. Please come to the Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center and we will evaluate your blood level and, if you are indeed anemic, we will help you to determine why and make treatment recommendations to help you with your Anemia.

Easy Bruising

Sometimes we develop easy bruising. We wake up in the morning, sometimes, and see a bruise and wonder to ourselves “I do not remember having bumped myself.”

Easy bruising can occur for various reasons. We at the Prairie Bleeding and Clotting Center are able to help you to investigate and develop a treatment plan to help you if you are having easy bruising.
